Summer programs courses are arranged as to free students’ Fridays and weekends..
So after four days of studying in Manhattan, you can leave the Big Apple for the time of a long
weekend. Imagine yourself enjoying your economics class on Thursday afternoon and then heading to JFK for a flight to New Orleans or a train to Boston.
You’ll return delighted to have discovered a different ambiance, and enjoy New York even more for your last week of classes. Below are 4 cities you can reach in a short time from NYC:
Boston
“When you think about Boston, Harvard and M.I.T are the brains of the city, and its soul might be Faneuil Hall or the State House or the Old Church. But I think the pulsing, pounding heart of Boston is Fenway Park.” -John Williams
If these appeal at all to you, it’s time to find out what Boston has to offer! The
MIT, the Faneuil Hall and Fenway Park are at 1:10 hour by plane and 4 hours by train or bus.
Washington DC
John Fitzgerald Kennedy declared it the federal economy capital of the country, calling it “a
community of Southern efficiency and Northern charm.”
An enticing trip, at just 1:15 by plane, 3 hour by train or 4:30 by bus.
Chicago
“You know what they say about Chicago. If you don’t like the weather, wait fifteen minutes.” Ralph Kiner
The Windy City is reachable in 2:20 flight.
New Orleans
“New Orleans is not in the grip of a neurosis of a denied past; it passes out memories generously like a great lord; it doesn’t have to pursue ‘the real thing’.”
Umberto Eco makes us want to escape New York’s hyper vibe for a weekend torelax and understand the motto of NOLA: “Let the good times roll.”
 At 3 hours by plane.

  1. Spreading the news to everyone around you

Nothing insane about saying that New York is attracting the entire world. You will probably be super surprised about how your friends’ friends can actually become your friends.

  1. Use Facebook smartly

Not only numerous, housing groups are really useful. Try to find the one of your country. Here is at least some that you can join: Housing NYC, NYC sublets

A lot of exchange students found their apartment in New York thanks to these groups. Don’t underestimate their usefulness.

  1. Better to choose a roommate

New-York is New-York. Try to spend less money for your apartment and more for going out. New-York will sell you dreams, but better to keep in mind that “there’s no free lunch’.

  1. Live in a good neighborhood

You think that you already know New York whereas you’ve never been? Well, I also thought this but I have to acknowledge that I was misleading so far. No, I am sorry to tell you that Times Square is not a dreamy place; everyone try to get out of there, actually. If you want a beautiful neighborhood, try to get something downtown Manhattan as the East Village, Lower East Side, Noho and Soho. If you prefer to discover the Brooklyn lifestyle, then look for an apartment in Williamsburg or Bushwick.

  1. Organize your visits three days before to come

Apartment visit can be a hard step; but it is also the best way to get familiar with New York City. So try to enjoy it by getting organized and setting up meetings according to the proximity of the apartments you want to visit.  Also, it’s better to go to visits with a friend since an outward opinion will not be too much. So if you have this chance, seize it!

“ I get out of the taxi and it’s probably the only city which in reality looks better than in the postcards, New York “ Milos Forman

We wish you a beautiful experience.
